Seismic risk
Through this work package, the Programme strives towards achieving the outcome of strengthened capacities to coordinate and communicate across the civil protection and seismic sectors for effective disaster risk management before, during and after seismic events.
Work Package 1.1.b – Improved domestic legal and institutional frameworks focusing on seismic risk
Responsible consortium partners: DPC and EUCENTRE
This work package includes an activity is to improve national and regional capabilities in post- earthquake damage and safety assessment. The activity aims to enhance the national and regional capacity for post-earthquake safety and damage assessments, with a focus on conducting large-scale basic safety assessments (BSA) for both ordinary buildings and cultural heritage.
The key actions include assessing existing capacities within the Partners, establishing a national methodology that covers team preparation, organization, deployment, and inspection management. Special attention will be given to stakeholders, logistics, and technical equipment.
Work package 2.3.b - Risk assessment and management – focusing on seismic events
Work package 2.3.b includes work towards the Programme outcome of increased capacity to plan for post-earthquake recovery action in Partner countries.
The Programme will introduce the real-time seismic risk scenario platform and National Disaster Risk Assessment (NDRA), enable Partners to access and use a Web GIS platform for real-time seismic risk scenario assessment. The tools can be used to: Produce consistent seismic scenarios for training, exercises and emergency planning; calibrate emergency operations in the response phase and provide seismic risk estimates to be used for National Disaster Risk Assessment.
