IPA CARE
About the IPA CARE Programme
The Western Balkan region and Türkiye are exposed to a broad range of extreme weather events and hazards that are expected to increase in number, intensity and variability due to climate change. Furthermore, the global Covid-19 pandemic pointed towards a complex interplay of different types of hazards (i.e. health, climate) that underlines the need for enhanced and integrated disaster risk management to prevent risks and increase resilience.
The EU funded IPA CARE Programme supports Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Türkiye in developing capacities for disaster risk management, with a particular focus on contributing to increased resilience to earthquakes and health emergencies. The Programme addresses the need to develop cross-sectoral resilience, which was demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic, by proposing activities that integrate the civil protection and health sectors.
The IPA CARE Programme runs from March 2023 to August 2028 and has a budget of 12.8 million EUR, of which 36% will be devoted to equipment.
